Catholics burned alive by Muslims in Nigeria — where’s the MSM?

First, look at this photo:

Those are (were) people of the Catholic faith and citizens of Nigeria. They were reportedly burned alive in Nigeria by Muslims.

Why in the world isn’t the mainstream media covering this? Because it doesn’t fit their perfect little meme that the Christians are mean and evil to the innocent Muslims. A few blogs have covered this, but that’s all.

The Catholic Church has responded:

Statement by Father Juan Carlos Martos

This is a brutal example of how far the struggle between muslims and catholics in Nigeria has reached. Muslims are determined to impose their ‘religion’ all over Africa as well as in other continents and countries of the world. Islam has but one goal: rule the world at any cost!

And where are the International Human Rights Organizations? Christians are burnt alive in Nigeria: a horrific Holocaust right in front of International indifference! As denounced by Father Juan Carlos Martos, on behalf of the Missionari Clarettiani, via del Sacro Cuore di Maria, Rome, Italy.

By publishing this graphic document on Facebook, I have intended to make the world aware of certain terrible events totally ignored or minimized by the mainstream media; an authentic genocide so cruel and inhuman only comparable with the most hateful and vile acts in the Nazi extermination camps.

To my great surprise, Facebook has criticized me for the publication of this graphic document as a proof of the Holocaust that Christians have been suffering in Nigeria in the last ten years. According to Facebook’s Security policy of the ‘social’ Network, this photo has been classified as ‘pornographic’, ‘violent’ or ‘inappropriate’ and hence I was disallowed to publish any picture for a week. And I was threatened drastic measures if I insist publishing any document that prove the terrible violations of Human Rights in Nigeria. This attitude by the (Spanish) Facebook Management is an attack to the freedom of expression as much as a shameful insult to the 500 victims (only in this horrible episode) slaughtered by Islamic terror only for being Christian.

I thought that this social network, originated in the United States, would not bend its knees in front of terror. Especially, when still healing their wounds suffered in the gruesome 9/11 attack, just as our own 3/11 at Madrid railway station, all innocent victims of the wild fury and insanity of Islamic terror.”

This seems even more unacceptable in Spain, a Democratic state, where the rights of opinion, expression and religion are guaranteed by the Constitution (Art. 16 and 20), if there is an attempt to limit such rights, let alone through threats and coercion thus weakening their freedom of expression by condemning as “inappropriate” a graphic document (not a photomontage) which reflects a brutal reality in all its crudeness.

Contrarily, the Administrators of Facebook Spain should welcome this public protest advocating that such a barbarian act will never be replicated and that its perpetrators will be brought to justice. This is a right and duty of every citizen: a service to society, ultimate goal, I feel, of any network that defines itself as ‘social’.

Regrettably, if the murders continue, this is greatly because truth is always hidden to the sovereign people, so that they may not be aware and ‘disdained’ by it: complicit silence by the mainstream media leads to the indifference of the
international political community facing this unspeakable Holocaust! Let alone the cowardice already rooted in the western world facing the islamic terror. A consequence of the stupid “Alliance of civilizations”: another regrettable incident of our former Prime Minister Rodriguez Zapatero.

Can you imagine the reaction of the Islamic terrorist organization in the (impossible) case of a massacre of Muslims in a mosque, by the hands of Christian terrorists? And how widely would our media cover and condemn the crime and the criminals?

Therefore, from this modest blog, I ask a favor from all people who are reading me: please distribute this photo and its comments using all the media you have. If only for commemorating these martyrs since, unfortunately, Facebook seems to be on the side of the executioners by preventing the publication of such tragic events.

~ Juan Carlos Martos cmf Segretariato di PVMissionari ClarettianiVia Sacro Cuore à Maria-500197-Rome

Unfortunately, this event explained below is tearing the church apart. The Nigeria news site Punch explained on Feb. 1:

At such a crucial time that the country is trying to grapple with the onslaught of Boko Haram on Christians, the least desired of a body conceived as a rallying point for Christians is division. If for nothing at all, the lives of Christians lost to the violence of Islamist fundamentalists and splinter sects should be a reason the leadership of CAN (Christian Association of Nigeria) and the Catholic bloc resolve their differences. Now, more than ever, the Christian body needs to put its house in order and reposition itself to speak out against all forms of violence. CAN must henceforth desist from politicking and refocus on its core value of Christian ecumenism.

Yet, we’re covering this. And the news sources listed below are covering this. How many of them have you heard of before, or do you read regularly?

The next time you turn on CNN, Fox News Channel, MSNBC or any of the other networks, remember this: when it came to showing that Catholics are being burned alive, they chose to silently sit by simply because it doesn’t fit the meme that Muslims are good and Christians are discriminating against them.

Update: One source has reported that this photo may be of a tank explosion in the Congo from nearly two years ago. However, several Nigerian news sites are discussing these issues on their sites, as you can see directly above with the quote from Punch We do not have the resources to put someone on the ground in Nigeria to find a first-hand account, which is what nay-sayers have written and asked us to do. So either way, the question remains: with several other sites covering this, where’s the mainstream media? That question exists regardless of whether this photo is of another incident. To date, the evidence we have seen from the Congo explosion is not inclusive of this photo.

  2. Reposted to http://www.ttueoop.blogspot.com This is a tragedy. The failure by MSM to bring this wholly into global view is a travesty! WHERE ARE THEY?!

    Religion of peace? Yeah, right!

Christians- Catholics… scores of them burned alive in Nigeria!

And we find out about it a year later via The Brenner Brief. Thank you Brenner Brief.

    MSM! Shame on you!

  3. Reblogged this on World Chaos.

  4. Where is the MSM on this? This is genocide and MSM says nothing. You’re right — it’s because the truth doesn’t fit the MSM’s meme. Facebook is an atrocity to free speech.

  5. Horrifying! Outrageous, genocide taking place ! The Brenner Brief provides a valuable service by informing the public of the Nigerian massacres, continue coverage on this.

  6. This photo is from a non-related 2010 Congo article on an explosion that killed 210 people:

    • There is one source saying that, which we have mentioned in our update and linked to in the related stories. We’ve also linked to the other sources reporting this as true.

This story is reporting on the other sources who have reported this as well as the comments from a Nigerian source. All of that is most definitely true. There is now dispute as to the photo, and we have mentioned that in our update.

  7. This is not a true article. The pictures show the results of a fuel truck that overturned in 2010, then caught fire as people crowded around it to scoop up the fuel. This had nothing to do with murder of Catholics.

  8. Give me proof that any of these so-called god’s even exist !….To kill in the name of an imaginary friend is just ridiculous ! Christians and Muslims alike have been brainwashed for thousands of years.

    • If you are an atheist, please provide us with proof as to how the earth was created.

      • hiway280z says:

your right Brenner….I always figure if I am wrong I have nothing to lose. If I am wrong and live like God says I am a better person. If the non believers are wrong ( and they are) they have a lot to lose. Do you see the wind…no can’t see the wind. You can see the results of the wind so you know it exist. I didn’t see the earthquake that tore my house up but I saw the results of it so they exist.

      • Believing in the fact that more have been murdered in the name of religion in the history of mankind doesn’t make one an atheist.

  9. This is a picture of a fuel tanker spill in the Congo where 230+ people were burned to death. That’s why main stream media isn’t covering it – it happened in 2010.

  10. 55 Christians are killed by the NY Police for holding up signs of protest in front of FOX NEWS….not really but! would not surprise me one bit.

    • Jerry, that is not the same thing. And, there are still sources saying that this indeed did happen. Yes, some day it didn’t – and we’ve identified that and also updated the story.

  11. littleportfolio says:

RIP, my fellow and sister Catholics! I am weeping for you.
Thank you, Brenner Brief, for exposing this evil.

  12. Ohhhhh.
    What a terrible photo ….
    Shocking …

  13. People tend to forget the attrocities commited by western “Christians” all around the world – even to their own over hundreds of years. Not that I condone any attrocities however; taken in perspective its all minimal in comparison. Western powers have raped and pillaged and destroyed third world countries. They introduced so-called civilisation purely because the cultures they encountered were alien to their own – and lots of money was to be made.

Nowadays these countries have been left to sort out the mess created – most still have western super-companies tearing all the wealth from them. In times gone by the inhabitants of such countries were looked upon as sub-human slaves and treated as such. Missionaries would feed them etc only if they converted to their own brand of godliness – all part of the civilisation process that ruined so many cultures and countries.

If you treat a dog badly can you complain when it eventually bites you?

It is revolt against the opressor and all he stands for that causes such current attrocities – the general public feeling in Nigeria is one of “you owe us”.

Its all very terrible, especially looking at pics and reports on the internet – true or not and howling about wicked savages, however personlly I see it as a revolution that was long overdue.

Oh and I was born a “Christian” by the way!

  14. I reblogged and linked this story from your site. I wish I’d done more research, because I was POUNDED for not doing it. You really need to verify everything in this article. I was able to google the photograph, source it and correct the errors in your article in just a few minutes, but not before nearly 200 others reposted the erroneous article I’d written.
Here is a collection of actual Boko Haram handiwork: http://bit.ly/WiI2pQ

Please correct the attribution of the photograph: July 10, 2010, Congolese fuel tanker explosion kills 230. That is the picture up there. You can do better.

    • Jewel, thank you for your comment. We are aware of that information, and it’s discussed in the many comments here on the page as well as in the “related stories” linked at the bottom of the story. I’m sorry that you didn’t see all of that.

There is also dispute over what you have linked. As the story explains and as we explain in our update, it would be helpful for the MSM to cover this with the resources they have available to find out the truth. It sounds like you reblogged the story before reading the whole story, the update, the related stories and/or the comments. We realize your frustration, but hope you also now see all of the various comments, updates and information that we have included on this story. All of that should also be available to your readers in a reblog.

      • My concern isn’t with the story per se, since the MSM regularly neglects covering it. My concern is that you continue to use a picture that has been proven to be sourced to the Congolese oil tank explosion. You do not reference this at all! That story HAS been covered by the press. Simply image-google the Congolese oil tanker explosion and you will see the above photograph. That is why I ask you to remove the photograph itself. Continue with the story, but the photograph undermines completely the message you are trying to tell.

        • Actually, there are sources that say that that photo is not from the Congo (as we have listed). Your point is understood, and if it were undeniable that the picture is of something else, we could agree with you. However, there are other sources saying the opposite. And, there are Nigerian news sources discussing the problems between the Catholics and the Muslims, making this photo more plausible. This is where a news outlet with resources covering the story would be helpful

  15. It does no good to rant about freedom of expression not being allowed on FaceBook. FaceBook is a corporate entity and has the legal right to set its own standards for content on its own servers. Whether or not we agree with their content standards, they do not belong to the public nor are they provided by any government entity. They can set whatever policy they wish. You can post whatever you want, of course, but they have the right to subsequently bar you for posting what they deem objectionable content they don’t want their site associated with just as you may come to my home and say whatever you wish, but I am free to ask you to leave my property if I don’t like it. People have some odd ideas about how freedom of speech is to be applied, and seem to think it means they can say whatever they want any place any time and no one can do anything anything about it. This is not the case. I thought it important to clear that up. FaceBook owns its servers. FaceBook alone, therefore, has the right to decide what they can and can’t be used for (outside of criminal activity, anyway).

  16. Shocking, shocking, shocking…This proves whether truth or not…we who say we are Christians, Catholics, Pentecostals and the whole of the Christian world…we need to fast and pray without ceasing for Peace and Healing for our land…especially during the season of Jesus Christ being led into the desert by the Holy Spirit for 40 days…before His Suffering, Passion and Crucifixion! …

2 Chronicles 7 : 14 -.16…And if, My people, upon whom my name has been pronounced, humble themselves and pray, and seek my presence and turn from their evil ways. I will hear them from heaven and pardon their sins, and revive their land…Now, My eyes shall be open and My ears attentive to the prayer of this place…And now, I have chosen and consecrated this house that my name shall be there forever, my eyes and my heart also shall be there always…..

  17. roxannadanna says:

You know, I really don’t care about the photo source. It can be from the fuel tanker fire or anything else.

The point is that these Catholics and other Christians are being persecuted all over the Middle East.

Let’s stop being mired in the small things and start looking at the big picture. The big picture is that Muslims are killing Christians and there is no response to this. No Lame stream media coverage. Nothing. I don’t care to hear about how many centuries of war has been waged in the “name of God” either. These Christians/Catholics are just trying to live their lives without disruptions from the Muslims and they can’t do it because the Muslims will not tolerate any other faith in their midst.

    This is disgusting.
