What are you going to do about your government?

There used to be some issues in American politics that transcended partisanship. For the past four years, it seems no matter how blatantly incompetent, corrupt, or derelict in duty, members of the Democratic party will fall in line. Government has never been known for its sincerity. That is ultimately the reason I am a Republican. But a citizen has the right to expect a minimal amount of accountability from their government.

The hearings in front of both the Senate Foreign Relations Committee and the House Foreign Affairs Committee were a disgrace. There was not one single challenging question from a Democrat on either committee. Are they not Americans too? Our so-called representative government used a hearing that was supposed to give solace to the families of the Benghazi victims as a coronation ceremony for Hillary Rodham Clinton’s 2016 campaign.

Republican lawmakers should be ashamed of themselves. You can count on one hand the statements and questions appropriate for the purpose of the hearings — and still have fingers left. In one sentence, Hillary teared up when describing the cherished friendship she and Ambassador Stevens shared, and in the next, expects us to believe she didn’t read an urgent cable from a friend who feared for his life.

Prior to the proceedings, Senator Rubio went on numerous news programs assuming one of the lead roles in the Republican party to get to the bottom of the Benghazi cover up. In full disclosure, I actively pursued Tea Party support for Senator Rubio when he was trailing Charlie Christ by double digits. Imagine my disappointment when I witnessed the incredible shrinking Marco. If Senator Rubio thinks that he played it safe to ensure his nomination in 2016, he is sadly mistaken. At best he will end up like Mitt Romney — about 7 million Republican votes shy of victory. If I were he, I would pick up my pants and march on because he has a lot of ground to make up before 2016.

As a veteran of the United States Army, I know full well how out of hand situations in areas of the world such as Benghazi can get. However, I also have intimate knowledge of embassy protection and Quick Response Teams charged with the sole task of remaining deployable anywhere at anytime. This situation was an avoidable failure that was covered up for the political purpose of Obama’s re-election.

There are two takeaways from the sham proceedings on Capitol Hill that Republicans need to recognize. Our government has become so dysfunctional and unresponsive that even when the family members of murdered victims take to the public with accusations of a cover up, your government thinks you are too weak to do anything about it. They have a complacent media at their disposal no less than the “People’s Daily” is for the Communist Party of China.

Secondly, save for Senator Paul, Rep. Rohrabacher, and Rep. Rose-Lenthinen, our elected party officials are no more worthy of public service than the Democrats. Every American should be appalled at the lack of responsibility, accountability, and honesty that our public service employees think they owe their bosses — the American people. It is an outrage that Republicans allowed the Democrats to shirk responsibility accusing the American taxpayer of being at fault for not providing sufficient funds to an already wasteful government agency.

Now it begs the question. What are you going to do about it?

  1. At one point I thought HRC hired every dem as a personal lawyer. I was appalled by that sham. I feel so bad for those family members that are still without any answers. To say what difference does it make made my blood boil. The difference is when someone gives u their word it is their bond and when u blatantly lie how can we trust anything else that comes from HRC mouth. Gone are the ways where u were bounded by your words and held accountable for them as well

Thanks for your perspective on this, Richard. Sickening all around. I am hoping Issa picks things up with his committee. On grassroots side, every time a lib / Dem challenges anything I am invoking the Hillary defense- “at this point what does it matter”.
This is at least an updated reply from her stock scandel of ” I don’t recall”. Pitiful.

  4. LOL. I never thought of that but I guess she is making some progress. I hope Issa doesn’t drop the ball either. We shall see…
