The presser any lower information voter would cheer

President Obama’s first term is nearly complete, and the occasion is marked with an end of the term press conference — a presser to end all pressers.

All the cool kids were there, each showing up on time, taking a seat and reviewing their lines included with the invite. The only wrinkle in an otherwise perfectly planned presser is the attendance of CBS’s rebel with or without a cause, Major Garrett. He can be such a wild card, not known for following the script.

If you were one of the many who were too busy with work or life to watch the presser, not to worry, nothing of note was missed. The press, other than asking a few atypical follow-ups, dutifully did their job. They teed up questions allowing the president to go on, and on, and on about his two favorite subjects: himself, and the evil GOP.

A review of the President’s performance in his latest role as concerned commander-in-chief follows:

He begins with a ‘succinct’ statement (read sarcasm) continuing his campaign of class warfare, reminding us he won re-election, and implying his top priority is to continue our economic “recovery” by reigning in debt with a balanced approach.

If I were a low information voter, I would be proud I voted for President Obama after such a compelling opening statement. He sounds like the most reasonable person in Washington, and wants what I want — a balanced approach to responsibly solve the nation’s economic issues.

In reality, however, President Obama’s definition of balanced is vastly different from most. His  fiscal approach is not equal parts revenue generation and spending cuts but rather equal parts of the wealthy paying more while Washington spends it.

The president goes on to imply the GOP is irresponsible for being responsible about wasteful spending in Washington. Apparently he forgets that as an Illinois Senator he voted against increasing the debt limit in 2006 saying, “It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our government’s reckless fiscal policies. Over the past five years, our federal debt has increased by $3.5 trillion to $8.6 trillion. That is ‘‘trillion’’ with a ‘‘T.’’ That is money that we have borrowed from the Social Security trust fund, borrowed from China and Japan, borrowed from American taxpayers.”

In 2006, President Obama called raising America’s debt limit is “a sign of leadership failure.” One wonders what he calls raising the debt ceiling to double the $8.6 trillion figure he was so appalled by then. That’s trillion with a T President Obama.

Obama-partye-timeThe President finishes strong, asserting the GOP has little or no regard for pretty much everyone, adding food inspectors, air traffic controllers and the specialists who track down loose nuclear materials to the typical list of those who “would not get their paychecks” if the GOP does not give the POTUS what he wants, $16 trillion (with a “T”).

With 24/7 and alternative media sources, few would attempt to be so arrogant and hypocritical, but then again few have full confidence that the MSM will never hold them accountable, revealing their hypocrisy and lies.

The president’s performance at Tuesday’s press conference, although Golden Globe worthy, confirms he has no intention of changing messaging tactics. His success in framing the fiscal cliff debate as “the rich just need to pay their fair share” emboldens him for the debt ceiling debate. It is time the GOP learns from the messaging master. But given history is the best indicator of future behavior, I have no plans to hold my breath.

  1. Great article Stacy. I wonder how many of the “middle class” taxes increased this paycheck, mine did, my sister’s did and everyone else’s did too. He needs to stop spending!!!!!

  2. Thank you! Everyone’s taxes went up as the 2% temporary cut on social security payroll expired. Unfortunately, as with many liberal policies, those who are low information voters are usually hurt first, and hurt worse and never see it coming!
