Allen West’s next career move

Many of us in conservative circles were heartbroken when Allen West suffered a defeat in Nov. 2012. After a close race, decided by less than 2,000 votes, West conceded on Nov. 20. West was the third Tea Party Republican to lose a seat on Election Day. Despite the loss, former Rep. West made it clear that his work was not done.

Only God knows what is in store for each of us. I have dedicated my life to serving this nation, and the results of this election will not change my purpose. Just as I did in the deserts of Iraq and Afghanistan, just as I did on Capitol Hill, I will continue to fight for our Republic.

On the heels of that statement, many speculated on what his plans would be. Focusing on election again in 2014? Or would he redirect his attention to grassroots movements? Last night, West informed us he was ready to share his plans with us via this Tweet:

While joining Greta Van Susteren last night on Fox News, West announced he joined the conservative media company PJ Media as their programming director and will also be hosting an online show for young conservatives, NextGenerationTV. As West spoke, he seemed truly invigorated by the prospect of continuing to work to promote conservative principles and ideals with the next generation. He made this statement on the PJ Media website:

My parents taught me a simple maxim, “A man must stand for something or else he shall fall for anything.” And that is why I took this course for the next phase in my life — to be the leading voice for the Next Generation program, and to stand up for our nation’s future. I know there were so many trying to predict the direction I would take, and one thing everyone needs to recognize is that I do not often do the predictable. PJ Media will give me the freedom to explore a multitude of topics and relate them to our next generation in a non-conventional manner.

On the Next Generation website, West shared his inspiration. He was at the 2013 BCS Fiesta Bowl in Phoenix Arizona, and as he reflected on the game and his initial college bowl experience, he considered the rising costs of today and the devaluing of our dollar. People today are hyper focused on our country’s dire fiscal situation and the growing concern that things are getting progressively worse instead of better. While Congress is still struggling to rein in spending, it is indeed the next generation that will suffer the consequences. West indicated he is “making a stand because I want Americans to have greater opportunities, and that should be our promise to the Next Generation.” West makes a call for Americans to join him in this endeavor.

The show is offering videos, talk shows, newsletters and events across the country, with the first broadcast airing on February 4th. Formerly of the Daily Caller, Michelle Fields will be serving as a correspondent, along with John Phillips, a talk radio host from Los Angeles. There are membership fees associated with this venture, with packages ranging from $5 a month to $30 a month.

On a personal note, I am thrilled and excited about this prospect. Part of the reason I fight so vehemently against tyranny is for my two children, and for the grandchildren with whom I will hopefully be blessed one day. We all need to join this fight and I strongly agree that part of that is providing a forum for young people to engage. It is my hope that we will see more programs such as this evolve and grow, and that hopefully Republicans can bridge the gap and reach out to this demographic in a way that is relevant to them.
