Dr. Cornel West attacks Sandy Hook victims as “vanilla”

Ivy League imbecile Cornel West is at it again.

I knew it was only a matter of time before he chimed in to opine on the recent Sandy Hook tragedy from the racial angle. His predictably asinine response was: “We can’t just shed tears for those on the vanilla side of town.” He said this on his radio show, but I didn’t know he had a radio show — who’s funding that?

Mr. West has always been outspoken and controversial, often with unintentionally hilarious results. I’m usually indifferent to his sophomoric observations, but I take exception to this one for two reasons.

First, it shows incredibly bad taste to make such statements while victims are still being buried. You would think someone who holds a Ph.D. from Harvard would know that. The country as a whole is wounded from the sensitive nature of the crime and its victims. What kind of classless buffoon says things like this at a time like this? An entitled, ignorant one who believes his inane proclamations are immune to criticism.

Secondly, he must be aware that 94 percent of murders of black Americans are committed by black Americans. The reason murders of black Americans don’t get as much attention is because people like Mr.West will certainly condemn the media as racist for repeatedly reporting crimes with black suspects, as the overwhelming majority of homicides of black Americans are. So either way, the media is racist. See how the game works?

If Dr.West really cared about violence in the black community, he would be talking about Chicago, where there have been over 500 murders this year alone. In spite of some of the strictest gun laws in the country, gun deaths are routine, especially among young black males. Unfortunately for the windy city, it is not beneficial to the socialist narrative to acknowledge the crisis. It is a duel example of how strict gun laws don’t prevent murders, and the liberal media’s tendency toward selective journalism.

Either Dr. West is aware he is deceiving people or he’s oblivious to the truth.

  1. Thank you for posting. Does Mr. West think we care what color the babies were who died? And they were babies. My heart aches for any parent who has to bury their child. He should spend his considerable energies figuring out how to stop all of this gun violence in this country.

  2. Add to that: he has clearly not seen pictures of the Sandy Hook children. There were black and Hispanic kids in that school as well, and at least two who died. Every time he opens his mouth, he proves how stupid and ignorant – and bigoted – he really is.

  3. I agree with most of your article. What is missing and what must be understood first is that racism is now a business.

Some of the most notorious names in the black community received their notoriety, and millions, promoting racism. Sharpton, Jackson, Farrakhan, to name a few, are all making millions off of the business of racism. Without racism, they would be useless “has beens” and, broke.

This was not the vision of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. He wanted an end to racism. He wanted opportunity for the black community that had been denied them due to true discrimination. Yet, where in all of the Sharpton, Jackson, and Farrakhan rhetoric do you see or hear them promoting and/or creating opportunity for black Americans?

Do they tell black American youth to stay in school, work hard to get an education and good grades? No. From TheGrio.com, September 20, 2012:
“The Schott Foundation for Public Education released “The Urgency of Now” today, a study showing that only 52 percent of black male ninth-graders graduate from high school 4 years later, compared to 58 percent of Latino male ninth-graders and 78 percent of white, non-Latino male ninth-graders.”

These are pathetic statistics for black Americans yet, exactly where are these supposed black community leaders? Instead of addressing the issue, they turn everything into racism: tests are racist; schools are racist; blacks can’t make it without affirmative action; and on and on. Instead of trying to overcome obstacles, they make the obstacle unfair by labeling it racist.

Are black leaders pushing black America to do better or try harder? No. Are black leaders giving black youth a positive self image and a winner’s attitude? No.

Why aren’t these black community leaders providing opportunity to black Americans? Why aren’t they bringing the staggering amount of black on black violence to the attention of the community and the country? A community they set themselves up as leaders of, yet, they fail to address the true issues of the community – repeatedly.

The answer is simple: racism has evolved into a lucrative business. Without racism, these leaders cease to be leaders and their source of millions and cushy life style doesn’t just wither, it dies. If the “business” of racism were attacked so vehemently as big tobacco, AIG, Wall Street, big insurance and the auto industry were, racism would be abolished in record time.

But, black “leaders” such as Sharpton, Jackson and Farrakhan, and Dr. West, will never let that happen. They will never cut the “throat” of their fame and fortune. Instead, they keep their fame and fortune not by offering real opportunity and solutions, but by continually proselytizing their faux concern of racism and keeping black Americans primed with anger and hatred: racism.

  4. He’s not oblivious. And if he or anyone in the black community who continually race baits or blames white America for their problems cared, they would be involved in their community teaching children how they can have a better life. They would set expectations higher. But they never do, and things will never change until they become involved and honor those who try, those who succeed instead of attacking them for acting too white. The thing about expectations is ppl rise to meet them.

  5. I am not the least surprised. We were on line at Target, that first day after the shootings (Saturday) while an older black gentleman (and using the term loosely) in front of us, was on the phone. He was using profanities and said to the person on the phone, and I quote “I don’t give a *@#$%^ about all those white kids that died. Why would I care about any *@#$%^ white person dying?”. This is how some feel about the shooting. I am eager to bet that the same racist jerk could care less about the lost lives of innocent black kids from Chicago, caught in the middle of gang violence. Knowing Cornel West, is anyone truly surprised of his vile comments?
